Built in 1962 and named for Bishop John J. Dougherty, President of Seton Hall University from 1960-1970, this building houses the Pirates Dining Room, Pirate’s Cove and Theatre-in-the-Round. The University Center also houses meeting spaces for clubs and activity areas for speakers, dances and more.
In February 2021 it was announced that Bishop Dougherty University Center will receive a major renovation to update the building and increase functionality. Extensive interior renovations are expected to take place with plans to create a new studio, event room and new prayer room. The exterior of the building is also expected to be renovated with plans to dress the building’s exterior cast stone and bronze glazing to match the architectural cues of other landmark structures on campus.
