Fine in the morning very cold in the afternoon. Played ball. Slept till boys were in breakfast. After nine o'clock mass started for home. Arrived in Newark so train for New York till seven o'clock. To New York on top of stage. Very cold. Stopped at halfway house. As we drove up
Fine in the morning very cold in the afternoon. Played ball. Slept till boys were in breakfast. After nine o'clock mass started for home. Arrived in Newark so train for New York till seven o'clock. To New York on top of stage. Very cold. Stopped at halfway house. As we drove up a fire. All Bergen out. Arly a matrass burnt and walls damaged by water. Reached house about half past five. All had to see me. Mary and Bayard came in about half past seven.
 
Monday, 6.
Day fine. Passed a quiet and pleasant day. In afternoon visited by Norman Melliss J.M. Lunts Jr. Mr. and Misses Williams. In the evening  saw Mr. and Mrs. Williams at Conway's Brooklyn Theatre. House crowded. Fairy Circle and customs office counting. Mr. and Mrs. Williams acting splendidly.
 
Tuesday, 7th.
Up at five to to bed again till six. Left house about half past six. All asleep. Arrived in So. Orange about fifteen minutes past eight. Examination in Philosophy. Passed well. Wrote to M...E. Are writing to Aunt J.n. Postal cards to N.Y. Clipper and P..a. Disagreeable morning pleasant afternoon lovely evening.
 
Wednesday, 8th.
Disagreeable looking morning. It is not raining but every thing looks damp. The sky is clouded. First day in Ethics. Letter from Bayard.
 
Thursday, 9.
Rain in morning. To the village. Letter from Aunt J.n.
 
Friday, 10th.
Writing to aunt J.n. Rain in currents. Postal card to Bayard.
 
Saturday, 11th.
Wind high. Snow in evening. High wind at night. Mailed letter to Aunt J.n.
 
Sunday, 12th
To early mass.Bayard came up in hovee car from Newark. Five dollars worth of fine cigars and a number of papers. Spent day with me. Came up to play ball but wind too high. Left in six o'clock car for Newark. Said he enjoyed himself although I could think of nothing pleasant.
 
Monday, 13.
Very pleasant day. Ground having become frosted the sun changed the hard earth into mud. Letter form Bayard. Finished Philosophy .
 
Tuesday, 14.
Beautiful morning. Nice afternoon. Ball. Letter from Mary. Paper from Bayard.

March, Saturday, 28. 1874 Letter from Bayard. Fine day. Playing ball.

Sunday,29. Mass very long. Played my final game of ball in 1874. Our side defeated. Score 24 to 10. Short game: about an hour and a half.

Monday, 30. Letter from Bayard. Weather pleasant a little wind but sunshine also. Reading Shakespeare. Letter from Wm. Lynch.

Tuesday,31 Nothing.

April, Wednesday, 1. Letter from M...e. Answered it. Good game of ball. Leuelval. Spent pleasant morning.

Thursday, 2. I think it was today that I received letter from Aunt Jin.

Friday, 3. Ball. Yesterday or today heard from papa.

Saturday, 4th. Cold. Snowing slightly yesterday and today. Asked Father James to go home to day. Long discussion and a refusal. Very angry. I am to go tomorrow. Erdrig up of Leut.
