Saw Brashes on Monday or Tuesday. Mary to Newark. She did not come home. I arrived early + did not see her. I am sleeping temporarily in another fellow's using his brush + comb + clothes brush. I wish I had my own room [although?] it is devilish small. Expected my washing today but it did not come although the woman promised it would. I shall drop that female from my list. Wrote a terribly funny? article today or yesterday which to my great astonishment got in. Extra work. Spending money like a gutterman in saloon. | |||

April September Monday Thurs Tuesday, 26. day 23rd

Up and took Breakfast with Papa about 8. The former to the city. Johnnie [Homet?] to Brooklyn to see Papa. He is anxious to be paid his money. He was talking about being done out of his money + [e?]. [Heuateus?] to leave this week. Asserts he has a good place at Waters + [e?]. Will be gone sure by next Sunday. He and Papa had a falling out in which the latter gave [Homet?] his [deserts?] in the form of some pretty plain speaking. To the city myself. Went by way of Fort Hamilton. Met [Lomisa Waters?] on way over and had long chat. Ar-rived at Court when business was over. Brewer had attended to it for me. To President St. Over last night at present house. We are to [leave?] with Mrs. Harris to 162 State St. Seeing to my washing. [Queer?] the [aliment?] by my wash lady. I think I shall change next week.

Away bright and early. Took my breakfast at restaurant. To Court only to find it adjourned. Arrived about 10. Nothing to do so to Ms. Kelly's 143 East 55th St. Had my dinner there. Eat heartily. [Geo. Hoes?] his wife [Dan?] + [Lain Caffry?] present. [Hoes?] acting like a consummate ass all the time I was there. Received rather cool reception. Determined to visit less often there. Back to Court, then to office and [there?] home that is State St. We are to spend another night in President St. Saw [Mary RoL?]
