Nothing new. Mary was someplace yesterday I don't know. Today she went to see Montagne act. Then she was to have gone to Bath. Papa feeling wretchedly and looking badly. Nothing at Court nothing at office. About this time heard from Bayard. He's going to Maine for ten days. [Are?] letter to [annul?] him lies in my desk. I have commenced another. To the Brooklyn establishment late.

[Right] 1877

Intended to have been up early: was up late. Too late as I thought for Court. I rushed up to 57th Street. In luck again. Obtained the only important case. Wrote up copy for Brewer, as he was away. Handed in my one case at Herald office. Then to Bath. Warm day. Seeming cooler than his previous days. The [dummy?] came and had three cars attached all nearly filled. Spent the afternoon at our house in Bath m writing. Think I saw the Shaws. Wrote up good deal of diary. Necessesarily imperfect all though using a poor method. [Forgot likely?] that yesterday dropped in that coat I have been wearing up to that time. Kate fine. Great heaven be praised. Better than the killing of 20 unwell + unhappy. Mary Rob arrived late: about 6 1/2. Wrote to Magie and J. U. D. Mrs. Williams down. Mary visited her. Pleasant day.

Up at 6 1/2. Dressed myself. Went to bed with clothes on. Up again after 8. Mary and Papa to the city on an early [dummy?]. Damp day. Stayed around grounds till late. Had something to eat and then to [dummy?]. Caught an earlier train than I thought I should. To Court. Nothing of much consequence. In the evening to Wallacks to witness "Rosedale". Enjoyed the play exceedingly. Very full house. Wallacks, Bucket and Effie German played very well. Also saw Gilbert. To bed late as usual.

[Centered] Tuesday, 8. 22nd

Mary had not come home when I left Harris: Yesterday I paid part of my board money. To Court nothing going on. To Herald office where found everything quiet. [Guided?] friend to theatre. Treated to supper against theatre besides. Saw Nielson as Juliet in Romeo + Juliet. Great actors and wonderful acting. Theatre not mt till 12. As fun as [lwecabe?]. It was raining hard. Large audience. Home: that is Harris:
