October, Tuesday, 13. 1874.
Mamma much worse. Aunt Sue and Uncle called. Letter from Daniel Elliott. John Hornet to Bath.
Wednesday, 14.
Bayard and I to Bath. Walked from Greenwood to Bath.
Thursday, 15.
Mr. McElroy died. Mrs. Kelly and Mary Berine called.
Friday, 16.
Recollect nothing which or that took place today.
Saturday, 17.
To N.Y. Call on T.W. Dwight at Columbia Law school but he was not in. Papa and I then visited Mrs. Kelly. At her house we saw Mr. and Mrs. Williams, Mary Berine, James McCaffrey, Dan Kelly, Marie and Mrs. K. herself.
Sunday, 18.
To half past ten Mass. Sermon by a young priest: good voice but poor elocution. Pasted scrapo. Sat up all night.
Monday, 19.
Aunt Sue came in from Newark. Bayard called: also Dick. Played billiards with T.B.B. Aunt Sue sat up all night. To bed two.
Tuesday, 20.
Mamma passed a miserable night. Aunt-Sue left about one. T.B.B. called as did Father Walsh. Played billiards. To bed about two.
Wednesday, 21.
Was dressed by eleven. T.B.B. called. I wrote letters to M.H.W. Aunt-Sue N.Y. Sam and J.V.L. Pasted scrapo. Mamma better. Dada, Jen Canniff, Miss Esmonde and Mr. Bogan called.
Thursday, 22.
Walked to and from Capitoline ground. Saw part-of baseball game. T.B.B. called.
Friday, 23.
Papa to East-N.Y. Mrs. Williams Marie and Uncle William here. T.B.B. called. Papa to meeting. Postal card from Victor Haldiman.
Saturday, 24.
T.B.B. + R.H.S. called. To Prospect-Park ground. Mailed short letter to Aunt-Jen. To Washington Market until John Hornet.
Sunday, 25.
Arose late. To half past ten Mass. Walked to Prospect Park. Tried to read Kent.
Monday, 26.
While yet in bed heard Mamma crying. Found her nervous. My birthday. Aunt-Sue came in. Gave me two dollars. T.B.B. called. He gave me a nice penknife. Received congratulating letters from M.H.W. and Aunt Jen who sent in her letter a necktie. Wrote to M.H.W.
Tuesday, 27.
Wrote to V. Haldeman. Mamma very sick for a while. Better towards midnight. Read Kent. T.B.B. + R.H.S. called. Played billiards.
Wednesday, 28.
Played billiards with T.B.B. and R.H.S. all the morning.
Thursday, 29.
Uncle William called.
Friday, 30.
Papa to meeting. Read and wrote. Prof. Phillips called. Letter from J.V.L.
Saturday, 31.
Wrote to Aunt Jen, J.V.L. and Avcilhe. to N.Y. Papa to two meetings. To Washington market with John. Bought a suit at Baldwin's. Mamma better.
November, Sunday, 1.
Aunt-Sue and Uncle William to see Mamma. Walked with John James Harriet.
