Dec. Thursday 7th 1876 Study very little of Phonograph + little of Blackstone. Read quite a deal of the early dramatists. Find their comedies full of wit mixed with much filthiness. The beach covered with ice and the sea away out. The poles of fisherman covered with ice. Everything fiercely cold and cheerless.
Friday 8th Very cold. Wind on a high horse. Cutting up the devil's own capers. I have to make great preparations before retiring. I waner my night shirt, my bed clothes nupelf and then bolt for bed and shiver out the night. Two wood fires going upstairs: one to be superseded by coal.
Saturday 9th Bought N.4 Sun + Gazette. An article from my pen was published in Sun. Nothing in Gazette. Papa Will + myself continue living comfortably enough. Papa's cold continues. He takes medicine with little effect.
Sunday 10th My usual day for donning white shirt. Willie and I out to see newsboy. Cold, very cold, and I and the youngster were nearly frozen. Spent an inactive day. Believe I read and wrote. Papa busy on his book.
Monday 11th First decent snow. Papa to the city. He did not want to go. No more ball playing. To Wrights. Bought paper. Composing article for Sun. Willie out, wrapped up. Papa home in the evening. I read + wrote.
Tuesday 12th Continuation of snow flakes. Heard from Belle and Aunt Jin about this time. Papa did not go to the city. Haven't smoked yet, wrote quite a deal for Papa, do not read much of Blackstone or Phonography now.
