AUGUST, THURSDAY, 6 1874 Slept on the parlor sofa. Late for breakfast. Papa at home. Reading the Sun during the morning. After dinner Billie O'Gorman hired row boat. George Will and I went fishing. George seasick and lauded. Fished off Fort Lafayette. Poor luck. finished letter to Haldeman. Short for want of news. Intended to have read Kent but did not do so. Letter from Bayard. Quiet evening. Played a game of billiards. Passed Belle and Ida Shaw on my way up to Benjamin's. Costello here. Pleasant day.

FRIDAY, 7. High wind all day. Very stormy all night. Papa came home about eleven. Raining hard. Mary and Mazie at Kerstens. Papa went after them; angry at their thoughtlessness. They had not heard the storm and were unconscious of the flight of time. Letter received from E. McCabe of Brooklyn. Wrote letter to Aunt Jin. Resolved to get up on the morrow and soud it off. Reading Kent. Think it will be interesting. I can not sufficiently fix my attention on what the author says.

Saturday, 8. Raining. As usual late to leave bed. Too late to mail Aunt Jin's letter or rather my letter to Aunt Jin. Our club was to have played in Elizabeth but it is raining all day so there will be no game. Second Saturday that rain has spoiled our chances to play ball. Answered E. J McCabe's letter. Tried to invent puzzles but failed. Fixed things a little in papa's room. Barney Williams and Mary Bevins here. Papa at home all day. Mamma and he to supper at Williams!

Monday, 10. Gen. Bourke and Mr. O'Neil called in evening.
