To N.Y. with T.B.B. Billiards and oysters. Thaw and slush. Little Thomas Boy is dead. R.H.S. was seen in the evening.
WEDNESDAY - 23. Letter from Aunt Jen. No cigar. Too poor. Uncle William here. Mamma no better. Played cards. Read Kent & Blackstone.
THURSDAY - 24. Mamma very low. Elliott was written to. Dr. Byrne here. Bayard + R.H.S. played billiards with me. Mary to Newark. Made $1.50.
FRIDAY - 25. Dada here. Bright-day. Half past ten Mass crowded. Mamma very poor. Poor Papa. All sad and gloomy. Paper from V. Heldeman.
SATURDAY - 26. Mamma low.
SUNDAY - 27. Up all night. Mamma rested poorly.
MONDAY. - 28. Sad house. Poor Mamma. Aunt Sue with us. T.B.B. called. Mamma passed a better night.
TUESDAY - 29 - T.B.B. called. Mamma very low and nervous. To Dr. Byrne with T.B.B. Heard from V. Haldeman. Papa to Manhattan club.
WEDNESDAY - 30. Bay. called. Short-walk. Met Newton. Wrote to Dada. Mamma very very poorly. Uncle Will and Dr. Byrne here. Aunt Sue and poor little Sue Rob here.
THURSDAY - 31. Dr. Dudley, Byrne, and O'Gorman here. Mamma better. T.B.B. here. Mary + Ellen to confession. Aunt Sue +Papa disputed.

The following is a copy of a diary, Kept by me in 1867when I was about eleven years old. The original is partly in a small diary and the rest on curious slips of paper which I have found in a box which I used in 1867 at Seton Hall College but which for years remained unopened. I was quite young when the diary was written and my life was uneventful as can easily be seen by perusal of
DIARY FOR 1867 - As it was written.
Jany. 1. I had a very pleasant time today. Papa gave me this today. Mr. Hardy gave me three dollars.
Wed. 2. Willie Hardy came to see me today. Papa, me, Mary, gramma, Mrs. Parlman all went to see Hooleys.
Thur. 3. Today I went to a oyster sallon and after that I took a glass of soda water. Today I came back to school again.
Fri. 4. I cried all last night. And when I got up this morning I felt an awful headach and it continued all through the day. I forgot to mention that it was Mr. Carroll that bought me down here on the 3. I had no room to tell that I did not eat anything except the things which Mamma bought for me. And also that I went and put 15 Dollars in the Dime saving bank on thursday.
Sat. 5. Today, I ate the last of the things which Mama sent me. I did not eat anythings for breakfast or dinner but I ate something for my supper. I have nothing more to say at present.
Sun. 6. Today, we had a snow fight between our side and a band of robbers our side had only nine boys while the robbers had
