Nov. Wednesday 1 1876 All of us solicitous about Papa. His cold continues bad. He coughs away all day - and oh such coughs! No doubt about these coughs. They are genuine. We are enjoying very nice weather. Mary makes all look natural.

Thursday 2nd Mrs. O'Haulen ton 4 in afternoon. Mary and I talked during the day. We played a short game of cards in the evening. An adventure.

Friday 3rd Real nice weather. No signs of cold yet. Mary Rob left this morning . Expected Aunt Mary all day. She did not come. Papa better and again worse. He acts carelessly, not to say very foolishly.

Saturday 4th Most pleasant weather. Mrs. O'Haulen loved. She indulged in talk not-agreeable to one another. Played ball and dug up sand and worms.

Sunday 5th Very pleasant-day. Swing most the day, the weather was almost summer like. Daul Kelly visited us, and stayed all night. He and I fishing in afternoon and bobbing for eels in the evening. Nothing. Day's labor lost. Uneventful evening. Dan ls bed early. He and I slept together. Papa up most-of the day. His cold still troubling him and us all. Read papers + was confused.

Monday 6th Spent the morning in arranging things and reading. Dan away in the morning. Papa sent me to Bklyn on the 2.26 Dummy I called at his office at the Post Office and made a visit to the Sullivans in the Willow st. I was quite warmly welcomed. I saw Belle, Pauline, Mr. and Mrs. Swall, Scott, Mrs. Sprauge, Mrs. Badge and Mrs. Sullivan. They were all well pleased to see me. quite a talk with Belle and Pauline. Here on the 6 Dummy I saw a number of no bodies in Bklyn. Heatened storm. Recd. letter from ... quite a funny + ... euacted last evening between Mrs. V and myself. Mat Brady was made act foolishly by me yesterday. He said he felt like hitting me.

Tuesday 7th Election day: raining I deposited my first vote. My candidates were Samuel J. Tilden + Thomas A. Hendricks for for Pres. and Vice Pres., Lucius Robinson and William Dorshiemer for Gov. + Lieut. Gov. of N. York, Darius A. Ozden for Canal Commissioner, Robt. H. Anderson + Robert Earl for Suspector of State Prisons and Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals, as for the straight Democratic ticket, Jas. Fanner for Register, Eugene D. Buri for County Clerk, Alraw N. Dailey for Surrogate, Jno. Cunningham for Commissioner of Charities, and S.G Nelson for Member of Assembly. I also voted Constitutional Amendment, giving the gov. the appointment of Canal Cem. + State Prison Suspector. I feel-shaky about this first voting. I thought I would be challenged and there would be a scene. I was going to vote a pretty well mixed up ticket and secret of it and I had made a secret of it and I thought the Democratic runners would dispute my right. All pussed off very quietly and I had voted before I knew it. Spent the morning in the polling place. Saw Gus Reckuafel in the afternoon. He leaves Bath tomorrow. And a long talk with him.

Wednesday 8th Bought a paper and and told the newsboy to continue leaving auy for me. He has the impudence to charge me over again what I have already paid. I am a dammed fool if I pay him a second time and I intend to. The Presidential Election in doubt. Recd. a letter from Mazielo day or later. Or ... short. Papa sent me for a paper. I did not get it, but took as an exchange some Newarks from him. Played ball. Papa continues ill. He outley moved from upstairs to the middle room. He keeps logs burning in the audirons and makes the room a trifle warm.

Thursday 9th Recd. long letter from J.V.L. I took great pleasure in it. Papa to the city though feeling quite unwell. I played ball. Came across a funeral quite an unusual sight hereabouts. Saw Sunisa Watens. Great excitement about about Tilden and Hayes. No one can tell who is ahead. Everyone wild with excitement.
