January Tuesday 2nd 1877 Brought medicine home with me the day before yesterday. I am taking it right straight along without any good effects so far. My cold is growing worse evidently. I cough cough cough and and then I cough tc. again. Did not get up till three or four. Mary Harrison brought me my breakfast and dinner which I took in bed. When I did get up it was to have fraud quarrel with Papa about different matters in the course of which we both got quite excited: he so for as to tell me to get out of the house to throttle me and to tue ateu to strike me. He used strong language to me too. Good commencement of the new year. I did not go to New York. The snow is three feet deep and in places has drifted to a much higher degree. No dummies running. I spent the whole of the evening below stairs playing cards tc. To bed late.

Wednesday 3rd Tried to get away but snow precented dummy from from running. Played lilliards at Fumells with Johnnie and some of the villagers. Lost most of the games. Home towards evening. Spent the evening down stairs. Hope to get away tomorrow. Papa sick last night. I have not spoken to him since our quarrel. Snow everywhere.

Thursday 4th To Fumell's played lilliards with Ad Hegeman and lost. To the city on the only dummy running. To the office. No notice taken of my absence. In the evening sent to report meeting of Fammany. On duty for three or four hours visited the union. ... are the a-to saw and few acts of Miss Multon one interesting play. Back to Fammary Hall and at the end of the meeting found myself in a dilemma with no report no way of getting auy sick with my stupidity and ashamed to go to the Herald. Suppose there will be the deuce of a now. To Brooklyn feeling tired and disp...sted. Asleep and all my troubles at rest for a while at least.

Friday 5th Up late and did not go near the Herald. Feeling quite unwell. My cold still continues. To Franklin Ave. to see Mary who was to the Park Theatre N.Y. last evening to see Lotta. She was gone but I was kindly received by her Aunt and cousins who chinned me to some extent and the mall member of the crowd invited me to come and see him again. I shall ? To Hooley's in the evening. Saw Archie Hughes Billy Rice Little Mae Fazette Welch + other minstrel lights. He... and ... bed.

Saturday 6th To Herald Office. Nothing said. My inefficiency not noticed. Nothing to do today. To # see the show ghraun a second time. Enjoyed it even more than the first time. Bouccicault very good. George house. Last night of the piece. Bouccicault applauded time + again. He made a speech. All the actors did well + recd. their share of applause. Wrote to Mary Rob a cross letter.

Sunday 7th Nothing to do in the morning. Believe I rose at 2 in the afternoon. To Church of Strangers in the evening to report lecture by sector Hutton. After sitting it through and being squeezed in the church and frozen in the horse car informed I need need not write the lecture up. Al the same however as I get paid for my trouble. To Brooklyn and in the h... of ....

Monday 8th About this time I played Brasher for a dinner. lilliards. I won. In the evening to Yorkville to report Cath. ball. Also to 120th St. to see a man. Arrived home in season and wrote up my article. Enjoyed the dinner at Brasher's expense. Also two cigars which ... list on the same. I am improving in my lilliard playing.
