[Centered] Thursday, 19. 5th
[Right] 18677
Handed in bill the lowest for some weeks my[simple?] Court [outlast?] $10.70. Nothing unusual in Court. Damp, disagreeable day. Had my umbrella out for a wonder. Brewer returns to 57th St. Court after absence of over a week. Bayard had a [fortist?] in some days. It was [nothing?] however. He and I resolved to go to Bath. We did so by way of Fort Hamilton. Dark night. Dwyer was walking John out. We got supper.
[Centered] Friday 6th
To Court; then Herald office. Several items handed in. Bayard had something to do for a wonder + could not go with me to Bath. Hurried for [710?] [dummies?]. Ran up hill to catch it + then waited 10 minuts for it to start. Arrived at [Fummels?] played billiards with alex. [Carpenter?], village [engine?], till 11. New home with Julien + had my supper. At [Fummels?] eat pie only thing since morning.
[Centered] Saturday 7th
Papa Johnnie + Kate's husband fixing place. I to city on 1257 [dummy?]. To Court. Four or five small items for tomorrow's Herald. To Schwab's,. Counsellor Nesbit more [???] than usual. Unsatisfactory talk with Brewer. Saw Bay. at office wishes me to write letter introduction for Mr. [Seilhawer?] to Ms. Williams. Did not do so. He + I to Bath on 7.10 telling jokes in kitchen.
[Centered] Sunday Saturday Friday, 20. 8th
Bayard + I to Brooklyn on 10.26 [dummy?]. He to his house + I 15 Court. Arrived there by 2nd ave car 12.30. Of course Court was over same time. Found Brewer's copy awaiting me. Back 15 Herald after spending a few minutes in Schwab's salon. Handed in copy + to Papa's office. Put on a shirt met Bayard on corner of Court + [Jerusalem?] Sts + to Bath on 300 [dummy?]. The open cars were on for one or two trips today for first time this season. We came down in one. Pleasant though cold. Nice day. Rather cool however. Bought some bread at [Fummels?] + had [15?] carry it half uncovered to our house. Eat a [set?] of dinner. Bayard had had his. We played ball. He back to Bklyn. I stayed all night. Papa has rented [Kerosene?]; probably for three years.
[Centered] Monday 9th
Saw [Brashes?]. With him to Bath. We brought pie + bread with us. Had a hearty supper. We passed a quiet evening downstairs. He went to bed quite early + I followed suit. Papa has not sold rented the houses after all. That confoundedly [faley?] woman who was here + agreed [Glaia their gracious?]. Papa to city + I to Court. Here was hardly anything. Wrote to Nellie + [fire?] hereabouts also sent [messages?] to a weakly paper the [rental?] Gazette.
[Centered] Tuesday Saturday, 21. 10th
Bayard is going to leave the Herald + accept travelling agency for a [Mr. Osterecolor?]. He thinks the plan will work well. He + I left office early after I had handed a Court copy. He tried to get tickets for [Paris?] theatre [Bichel?]. Could not of course so we paid and saw Brass. An enjoyable evening. Slept at Bayard's house.
[Centered] Wednesday 11th
To Father's office. Saw Mary there. We went to New York separately. Had not anything of any account at Court today. Sent off some papers to Aunt Jim. We are having nice weather but the dust is everywhere thick and blinding. [To over?] new boarding house. It is very nice but without carpet on staircase had they for a late cover in much noise stealing to bed. Saw Mary, she gloomy. Both in bed by 11.
[Centered] Thursday 12th.
Breakfasted for 1st time in new boarding house. Mrs. Harris told me she wished to make it as home like as possible for me. I was going away when she sent upward for me to come down to breakfast. There are a lady + brother both the [crains way?]. Mrs. Harris + husband + a Mr. Corey besides ourselves. Made out my weekly bill. It is low [vis?]: 10.70. Wrote [comp?] letter out to Marie about this time. Interesting case in Court. A young girl + a false lover. Wrote it up for the paper. Back to the [press?] [dead 81?]. [Mansion?] quite early. Spent the evening very guilty with worry. We had not much to say so I went to bed about 11. I am keeping good [health?]
