Low in pocket and no work in hand. I have spent most of this week in the office but no employment. After attending [tithe?] little at Court went to Newark with fellow worker Harvey. To Aunt Sue's alone. In time for supper. A quiet evening. Found all pretty well. Mary for better. Now all this is damned stupid. The above occurred yesterday. Left Newark today. Around office at night.

While in bed + only a few cents in pants pocket [yellin?] arrived from Mary $1.00 that is one dollar in it. Lucky Jack always falling against one's luck, and [anguish?] getting into some tumble. To Court. Spent money there in heating. I have spent a great deall deal too much money in $57 57th St. In the evening see Miss Adelaide Neilson in 12th Night. A very pretty woman, good actors generally and a stupid play with some redeeming points.

In goes my bill for the old room $10.70. I have stayed in the office night after night [unily?] looking for a job: no job from day to day. Papa off to Middletown Ct. Mary has been in New-ark some time. No sign of return. Expected to see Mary Harrison, but misled by Aunt Mary.

My bill $10.70 was paid. I had hoped to have reached higher. Now the most of the little I have made goes to pay one or two debts. On night duty to night good [outlook?] for this week. Picked up one or two items from police station. Fitzpatrick and I after weeks of coolness drinking together.

To day's paper (Herald) has three qualities of a column story of mine. The runaway in Parts. Have had more fights with my damned washwoman. She has lied to me - if nothing worse. I'll give her up. She's a bad egg. Second bad egg in the washing line. Expect to find more. In evening to 5th Ave. Hotel + to Mr. [Stewart's?] house. To Brooklyn earlier than of late.

The Union B.B.C. are to reorganize. They say they'll have good mine. My Court stores items have become to small in value seldom see print. Brought papers. To bed at daylight.
