Saturday June 16th Rained last night and most of the day. Brewer on his ear about nothing. He will get over it quicker than I. Wrote up an abandonment case but a smart one by the name of Fox reduced it. Meghan on a house for two or three days. The fresh at city desk. Myself on night duty. Williams, Hamilton, and myself to some fallen retirement houses. I afterwards left at Police Headquarters and passed a dammed stupid time. To bed about 8 1/2. Paid Mrs. Harris all I owed her, which was little, $3. Sunday 17th To court late. Got information from some man. Nothing important. To Bath at 2 o'clock subway. Nice day. Large number of people on their way down. Arrived on time to get something to eat. After keeping a lot of useless shirt collars cuffs. Looked over them today and put them aside to be thrown away. Danielle, Solomon, Mrs. Rossa, and the group visiting Mama and Papa. I saw some of them. Found out something about Mary Harrison I never could have believed without the proof I posses. She will little know what I know. She's been playing a deep game but is caught. My father's reception of myself very cool. He and Mary to William. Feeling very blue. Sitting on a porch and roaming around. Beautiful night. Letter from Margie. Monday 18th A splendid day. Mary to Newark, Papa to Brookyln, I to New York. Went in on 2 1/2 subway or I guess the 2. Right to court. Arrived there when it was over. Forever getting more kind and attentive. He told me what had happened in court: asked me to drink but I declined. To Herald office. In the evening to see the Sullivans. Belle away. I passed the evening with Pauline. Stayed till about a quarter to 12. Nice house they live in. On my way down saw Belle and Hegan. They did not see me. Stopped in at Herald office again and headed to Brooklyn quite late. Rather warm. I think it rained hard again my arrival in Harris. It had been threatening and down it poured. Tuesday 19th Up late to court. Brewer and Wood both on their defense. They even go to the devil Wood and I promised to give him money last Friday when I did not promise any such thing. Gave Wood $200 borrowed off him which I promised and did give him the first time I saw him. Invited by the two to drink but politely declined. Read numerous letters from Brother today. Wrote to Newark last night again I would not go to Commencement at Seton Hall. Put the job into Harvey's hands. Little credit he'll give me. Do not admire him very much. Stayed at office till late. Nothing to do. Went to Brooklyn with Hamilton. To Harris went 1. Wednesday 20th To court. Wood and Brewer there before me. Former drunk. Brewer huffy and very bland. Invited me to drink; I declined. Very little at court: only one or two abandonment cases. Wrote quarter of column about me. Intended to go to Bath. Could not, as delayed at court. Stayed till 9 1/2 in office and got a small job. With Hamilton to dinner. With Prestin to Brooklyn. Having devilish hot weather. To bed after 12. Thursday 21st Felt very warm all day. One or two items from court. Mary Harrison, Mrs. Bollin, her present midterms. Papa and myself in court. Quite a scene. Mary after her classes. Papa on the defensive. I ended the matter by volunteering to give up my weeks salary to make up for a deficiency. Wrote out some cases. Meant to borrow a little from Harvey; no success. Hurried to Bath. Caught 7 1/2 subway. Escaped heavy shower. Mary and Jeannie on same train. Claud and Harriet to meet us at Finlay's. Rained hard. Went to bed early. Mary practicing. Papa has a heavy cold. Smoking a great deal so not feel well. Little Willie in good health.
