Friday June 22nd No earlier at rising than usual. Saw Miss Batterson walking on the beach. We were not near each other so no conversation. Misused my time prowling around doing nothing. As I proposed coming to Bath tonight I endeavored to catch the 11:30 of which it was the 12:30 subway. Informed while at Funnello that there was to be a game at Park between our club and another. Rushed along to new office arrived there at 10 minutes of 2. Saw Brewer. Then to Harold office where had a long wait till 2 1/2 for my bill which came with no reduction but $16.70 allowed. For very fast. To Park with no fall shoes or anything else and papers in my pockets. Stayed there some little time when the game began. Out opponents were the continentals of South Brooklyn. We won 6 to 3. Low score on account of high mind. Quite a well played game. The lowest score I have ever been in. I was in right field not at all basebally. I have but very little interest in the affair. I let a little bot named Davis have my coat. After the end of the game he gave it back. I missed a newspaper from the pocket; then a hankerchief. Back to Claremont Ave. after eating a little in restaurant. Arrived at Bollins at 8 1/2. Met M.H. on sheet. Gave her money, she signed reciept, talked with her till 10. My notebook gone too. To Herald office. Failed to see Rawkins. To Harris and then back home. Saturday 23rd All last night thinking over losing that notebook. Contains my notes since I was on Herold. All reference to past events. Many little things I did not wish to lose. Up early for breakfast. To Prospect Park. No use. Looked myself, no notebook. Melancholy in consequence. Sat for some time on Prospect Park bench. Then to Brooklyn. Very little money in pocket. Borrowed $1 from Mrs. Hamilton yesterday. Brewer has 3 articles in today's Herold for me. Loafed around till 10. Then to Harris'! Sunday 24th Up by six. To New York with 10 cents in pocket. With two cents had breakfast: an orange. To court by 8 1/2. First time since I have been going there that I arrived before the court opened in the morning. Nesbit owed me $1.25. My cup of coffee was plan soon water. Second cup and second breakfast, a free lunch of crackers and ill tasting corned beef. Truth is worth unveiling in court. Two reports in there from times long ago the other a blackmail I'll bet. Wrote 3 items for Brewer, 2 for myself. Had my first meal at 12 1/2 at Spencers. To Bath on 2 subway. Spent miserable day. Jameson here also Kate. Monday 25th Yesterday M.H.'s birthday wrote her a letter. Up about 9: rest of folks came later. Pleasant though little chilly. Will no doubt be warm before day is over. Papa has a very bad cold. Yesterday was not M.H.'s birthday. Wrote up the letter before I knew so however. To court, telephone from Brewer to cover court. I did not write five cases. To Bath on the 11 1/2 train from Greenwood. Mary waited for me. Papa in Newark. Tuesday 26th From Bath to N.Y. Covered court for Brewer again who is out watching over his children. Wrote three or four cases for him. Met Wood again. He and I more pleasant than have been of late. Social at Schwabs. Getting low again in pocket. Nesbit mimly gave others borrowed. To Bath expecting Papa to give me some, disappointed. Wednesday 27th In from Bath. In afternoon to Prospect Park expecting a club play, but no game. Enjoyed myself catching and batting. In the evening to Mary H. in Claremont Ave. Found her looking well. Ten cents in my pocket. Thirsty, sick, and low-spirited. Walked to Harris and retired early. Warm but not unpleasantly so.
