Sept. 1877

Monday 24th Slept restlessly. Think my companion Frank the same. Nevertheless he was sleeping soundly when I called him about 6. Brasher + he left Bath on 7.11 [7:11] dummy. Brasher left without his hat. He did not return my cards so I held on to his hat. Mr. and Mrs. Helfenstein stayed till about 10. Papa + self to city. Told by some boys that Sullivan Lynch Titus + another name unknown was in Carroll Place. His former where it is said "lush". They were talking about the shaws + us. They said they were coming down here. In the evening Ellen said people in Frenchman's told her there had been two carriages in our lane but might the occupants of which shouted "Mary + Jack. Come out quick." On the 12 St dummy to the city. Unexpected early getting away. Suppose it occurred because I imagined it later. Found Brewer in Schwart's. There was nothing in Court except trifles. Tuesday 25th Mary to Newark. She + Mazie in another windy battle. She speaking apt me as if I had been abusing her. All because Mazie chose to spend short time talking with me. After Mary left + Papa also I stayed fussed around eat and fooled away time till 3 o'clock. While I was loafing about informed by excited Ellen that even terrible fellons [fellows] plundering air field. After the gene of devastation. Off soon after my arrival. He wears a hat like his missing one. He wore a ribbonless + disgraceful one to the city [blank] day. Spent evening with Mazie undisturbed by the Robinson female out by Robinson male. We talked chatted open gains + had enjoyable eve. [evening]

Wednesday 26th Mazie + I greater part of day together. Papa of course around. Eyes open. Mind filling with pretty fancies sure to come out when in an argument. To the city and tried to get back early in which I succeeded. Mary home. She + Mazie talking + fighting. Mazie spent some time with me. Weather continues lovely. Walk to Hamilton nearly everyday. Very dull for some time at Court. Beside not like to wrote.

Thursday 27th Hardly ever get away in time. Trying to do better as the justice [blank] at earlier in the afternoon. Pleasant weather. Johnnie Homet [blank] at Furnell's. Quite a come down. Friday 28th
