December

Passed a stupid & wretched night though I slept soundly for a while. Down to breakfast
quite Early. To Court by 11. Was adjourned. To barbers in tilting heat where I was shaved,
to Huald, then to Putnam House to meet Serge. Arrived late. He was waiting for me.
to are Moule Christo which we enjoyed. Donn Corm together. He lent me 81. Jo Herald again and several articles from after com papers. Hennessy called. No new items. Meet Word at the World office. We saw Modjeska at 5th theatre. a wonderful woman. 
Sunday 23
Another fine day. Up after 8. Loafed around till after 10. then to 57 st. Cant
arrive there when business was through, Hermessez before on me. Nothing up. do
be au alimony session. Thinking whether worthwhile to attend. Decided not to.
With two ill looking hundles to Bath via It. Hamilton. Sent out at City Line & walked
from there home. that Jabet John Dods with in road. Sweet + Bracher at our
Entertaining turmush Mowledge of Man, ainderson, Lufter dulk. He left by 10. Reading, eating till 12.
Monday 24th
Cold. Frost. Dark. Up about 87/2. Papa to the city before that. Willie Ellen
Mary & Papa to Newark. They are to spend Christmas there. I have been
invited but shall decline. The house to be locked during. our absence.
to Aug. Ford's law office. Served with anmmons. Telegraphed Merry Christmas titles
at Newark. Nothing of we both very heartily enjoyed ourselves over a clever burlesque
accent at cnit: Ant May to censting to the
Eagle the alie with Wood.
and an excellent pantomime. Dinner in coffee & cake 
Tuesday 25th
a pleasant Christmas day, as far as the weather is concerned. I spent a stupid day.
Frank to church I to Conart: Spent sometime in me Mannst Schwali's. Brewer
obtained $ 2 for me. Breakfasted in Harlem. Had Christmas dinner Guyselfen.
although Soul. Millen came in + sat beside me. Terribly tough turkey. In the evening.
with Frank to Eagle. Great crowd. Filled every part: theatre overcrowded. to Harlem.
Wednesday. 26th
Quite I good number of stories in to day's paper. My lifl will be larger than I at first
hoped. Wolle & rank up quite early. Intended to get up myself but it was quarter to 12.
when I was on the street. Writing up a story about a marshall which I concluded.
not to use till after a while. In the evening to Eagle take & heartily ajust.

Thursday 27th
time weather straight along. Something right straight along. made out my bill
for $ 9 this week. $1.70 out this week by working on space. Hope however to do better
long. Brewer lent me. $1 making # 3 which dam to, pay him out of that expensive $9.
In the evening to see the Man of Success at Union Square. Good acting generally but piece
rather stupid. to Harlem after a little tramp, waiting for an ordinarily filled car.
Friday 28th
Received $ 9. for my week's work. Nothing into day's Herald though I wrote
several stories. Then blamed for not writing. Explained I had written. From office
to Court where I arrived late. Found Brewer and Hennessey in Schwal's, I
paid Brewer $ 3 and Hennessey $ 1. Debating to what theatre I should go. De
decided to go to Eagle. Saw Bakes in Wood again. A large crowd and of course a
very enjoyable affair. Saw Edouin Maflin Jones's trimester Alice Attention and others affirms,
Saturday 29th
Another lovely day. Shaved in Harlem. Blown up at the office for not writing more of a
thing than I did, though it deserved it not. At astor Hence to see Seose who commit
during to an accident at Newark. My picture fallen in Bravery. To Contibefore.
Brewer or Hennessey. Only a case. Wrote them up handed them in & met "
Wood at World office also Haven another World man. To Park the alie with Word. Saw
Solhem in Dard Panickt a Regular Fix. Supper at Overtoris. to Harlem by about one.
Sunday 30th
Wet, windy and cold. Left bed late. Breakfasted + to Court: Found last - named
Cherid & Hen ennessey sone ... nothing up. Stayed in me manus shat time.
Lold there was
To Herald office. To Brooklyn first time in week. By way 7 st. Hamilton to Bath. A
eve and muddy walk across. High tide. Our bank suffering. To Bed late. My room cold.
