Nov. Wednesday 1896 All of us solicitors about Papa. His cold continues bad. He coughs away all day - and oh such coughs! No doubt about these coughs. They are genuine. We are enjoying very nice weather. Mary makes all look natural. Thursday 2nd Mrs. O'Haulen ... 4 in afternoon. Mary and I talked during the day. We played a short game of cards in the evening. All adventure. Friday 3rd Real nice weather. No signs of cold yet. Mary Rob left this morning . Expected Aunt Mary all day. She did not come. Papa better and again worse. He acts carelessly, not-to say very foolishly. Saturday 4th Most pleasant weather. Mrs. O'Haulen loved. She indulged in talk not-agreeable to one another. Played ball and dug up sand and worms. Sunday 5th Very pleasant-day. Swing most the day, the weather was almost summer like. Saul Kelly ... us, and stayed all night. He and I fishing in afternoon and bobbing for eels in the evening. Nothing. Day's labor lost. Uneventful evening. Sau ls bed early. He and I slept together. Papa up most-of the day. His cold still troubling him and us all. Read papers + was confused. Monday 6th Spent the morning in ... things and reading. Sau away in the morning. Papa sent me to Bklyn on the 2.26 ... I called at his office at the Post Office and made a visit to the Sullivans in the Willow st. I was quite warmly welcomed. I saw Belle, Pauline, Mr. and Mrs. Swall, Scott, Mrs. Sprauge, Mrs. Badge and Mrs. Sullivan. They were all well pleased to see me. quite a talk with Belle and Pauline. Here on the 6 ... I saw a number of no ... in Bklyn. Heatened storm. Read letter from ... suite a funny + clue ... last evening between ... and myself. Mat Brady was made act foolishly by me yesterday. He said he feel-like ... me. Tuesday 7th Election day: ... I deposited my first vote. My candidates were Samuel J. Tilden + ... A. Hendricks for for Pres. and Vice Pres., Lucius Robinson and William Dorshiemer for Gov. + Lieut. Gov. of N. York, Darius A. Ozden for Canal Commissioner, Robt. H.
