Thursday June 28th This week I shall pass most of the city as I desire to make some money. Had to borrow 25 cents more from Nesbit lately; also $1 from Hamilton and $2 from Miller. Obtained a job today; a night duty, $4 made. To appear with Fitzpatrick. Later on to coffee house meal. Bought some and retired at Harris about 4 in the morning. Friday 29th To Papa's office. Saw Papa. With 10 cents in pocket to Harolds. My weeks earning, $12.70. To Prospect Park grounds. Our club was where we played but did not. Played a while at fungals. A pleasant day. To Herald office. Stayed around till late but there was nothing gained thereby. Paid Hamilton $1 owed him also Millen $2. By tomorrow still have just $121 left. Have to borrow of someone else. Saturday 30th Paid Mrs. Badger $6 for board to Wednesday 27th. To Papa's office. Shaved and boot blacked. To court. Something of mine special in today's Herald. Only small items at court. Spent two hours in civil court opposite to Herold office. Nothing to do. Rich revelation in today's paper about O'Nell, of the Herald. Been playing double husband. Stayed around office till quite late. Paid Nesbit $150 and $2 from Preston. Sunday July 1st Awake at an early hour: around 5. Away from house by six. On time to be caught in heavy thunder shower. It lasted about 1 and a half hour. During heaviest parts I stayed under cover. Breakfast at Eugenes. Met a waiter that looked at my newspaper without an if you please. I was brief with him. Bought packaged cigarettes. Bath 12 1/2 subway. In time for dinner, first time home in months. Mr. and Mrs. O'Brian spent the day here. No other strangers or treasures with Papa. Saw couple acting shamefully in Burnett's field: same party from the city. Heavy thunderstorm in evening. Papa unwell and Mary unhappy. O'Brian gave me some cigars. Looking dirty all day. Monday July 2nd Up about 7 1/2. Picking cherries, great difficulty about my washing in Bath. Third week my things have gone. Had to wait till I had another collar ironed. Aunt Mary and Sam stayed at Bath all day and night. To the city late carrying cherries to Mrs. Harris. To court by 4. Brewer not at court. To office. Nothing there. To Bath on 8 subway. Tuesday July 3rd Bid Auntie and the children goodbye. Borrowed one dollar from Papa and two dollars from Sawyer Nesbitt. Arrived in better season at court. No Brewer, he has probably gone on a vacation. To Herald office where I looked around vainly hoping to get something to do. Wrote several stories for Herald. Manifolded number for Brewer. Saw Mrs. E about that time. Read letter from Aunt Sue with one enclosed for Mrs. Tobin. We are having cool weather. Great thunder shower, which I was luckily not in. To Harris rather late. Great attempted thinking. Wednesday July 4th Up night early. Got my breakfast outside house. My wash was delivered last evening: all correct, though some things were neglected. Rather contradicting time. To court. Attended to my own and Brewer's copy. Attempted to go to Bath but at 12 told to go on night duty on westside stations at 8. Terrible noise in New York from fire crackers. To Brooklyn then as no fire crackers allowed. Rather warm in city, nothing like it should be however. Walked to the first place from ferry. On the way got cheap dinner. To New York.
